A chat with a friend regarding my Atheism.
- Friend: You're really annoying when it comes to being an atheist.
- Me: Why? Because I'm outspoken?
- Friend: Obnoxious is the better term.
- Friend: Nah, you're just very passionate about something that doesn't exist according to you. I just don't understand why make such a big deal over something if it doesn't exist, do you know what I mean?
- Me: I don't understand why Christians do the same.
- Me: Or Catholics, Muslims, Jews etc.
- Friend: Because we believe he does exist. If you're so certain he doesn't why even bother with it? Like I know Santa Claus doesn't exist, doesn't mean i'm going to prance around and write books and posts and comments on why he doesn't exist and what not.
- Me: Because no matter what I do, where I am, what I read, any website, newspaper, commercial, anything, there's god and Jesus and being saved and the bible. I've never encountered people passing out the story of Christmas outside schools, I've never heard someone tell me i'm going to hell because i don't believe in Santa Claus, I've never met someone with the audacity to think they are an authority on science because of a story of Santa. People have never gone to war in the name of Santa, for the love of Rudolph, or Frosty the Snowman. I'm outspoken on religion because religion has been outspoken for too long. And they have caused more harm than good. Slavery, mutilation, abuse, war, the crusades, the holocaust, bigotry, discrimination, ignorance, segregation, sexism, indoctrination, and countless others. I'm promoting something that takes all of this away, all of the harm and abuse will disappear, logic and reason will be encouraged. People will learn to be skeptical and question the answers. Ignorance, hate, discrimination, and all the others will cease to be spread. That's why I'm outspoken.
